It’s 5:55 a.m. on the morning after July 4 and Hurricane Arthur is now passing along the coast of New Hampshire. I’m laying in bed in a 31 foot Cougar Ultra Light RV in Salisbury MA. I haven’t done much RV’ing, I spent a few nights in a Double-Wide when I was in the Military, but that probably doesn’t count. The wind is howling, the rain is driving and we are … swaying … a little.
For all intents and purposes, the Fourth of July would be considered a wash-out, right? Wrong.
Fourth of July morning started off great: coffee on the ‘patio’, a walk around the park and a quick shower. Then the sky started clouding over, very quickly, and we battened down the hatches and went inside.
We decided to check out Hampton Beach, stopped and watched the surfers and then took a drive along the coast and enjoyed the beauty of New England, even with grey skies, rain and a light wind, it was spectacular.
Now, here comes the make-or-break point: perceiving our Holiday to be a bust because the sun is not shinning and we’re not having our cookout and fireworks … or just celebrate?
We just celebrated! And in high style. We watched Dean Martin’s Celebrity Roast on CD and remembered just what ‘Politically Correct’ means.
We watched ‘Coyote Ugly’, a movie we’ve all seen too many times to count. I still cry.
When evening fell we headed into town to shoot pool and we ‘owned’ those pool tables all night. We listened to great live music, laughed, danced and totally enjoyed our Holiday Celebration.
Despite the ‘lemons’ dropped on us with the rain, the wind and the looming threat of Hurricane Arthur barreling up the coast … the 4th of July ended wonderfully, we made lemonade and had a blast!
