It’s the new year, we’ve said good-bye to the old and look forward to a new year filled with good (better) things than the past year. We vow to make positive changes and forgive our past indulgences. Your off to a good start and then life starts throwing curve balls at you.
I do this every year. I was so looking forward to an easier, brighter New Year. The past couple years have been extremely challenging: losing family members, my sister’s cancer and recovery, being ripped off by a contractor whom I had to take to court (I won), said good-bye to my sweet kitty, Emma, after 15 years, went through a Splenectomy with my yellow lab, Rubi … these were major life events for me.
Now I’ve always considered myself to be pretty lucky because I have not had to deal with too many lows in my life. So this all came at me in a rush. And I dealt with it, maybe not as well as I could have. Trying to stay positive, stay present and live a fulfilled life while dealing with the lows is one of the reasons I started writing this blog.
Well 2015 started out with a Bang! … but my attitude is definitely different. I am staying present and positive and hopeful …
A few weeks back I noticed a lump on Rubi’s leg. I kept an eye on it but in the last 10 days it took on a life of its own, so off to the vet we went. First the bad news. The tumor is cancerous. Those dreaded words. Again.
But the good news is that her blood work was clean, which means it has not spread and even though she is a few months shy of 12 years old she is in such great shape that she can undergo surgery. This is all good news for a successful surgery and recovery and that is where my energy will stay focused.
And just because the Universe didn’t feel my inner strength was being tested enough, sometime between News Years Eve and the day after the New Year my furnace went. (Did I mention I had a major pipe leak over Thanksgiving Holiday). Once again, I am fortunate in that the crack in the furnace is above the water line so the water is not leaking out which means I still have heat. This is a good thing when it’s January in New England. That’s going to be replaced in the next day or two.
Life’s curve balls. There is no getting around that some years are more challenging than others, but you have to deal with it.
And I am.
