Sweet Moments: Lunch with Mom at The Cedar Street Grille
Life really is about grabbing moments and creating memories. Last Friday, I skipped out early from work, picked my mother up and took her to lunch at The Cedar Street Grille. What a fabulous afternoon: great company, great food and great memories.« Continue »
MOM
For as many times as I am frustrated with my mother, more often than not she has me laughing, like yesterday. I took my mom for an MRI.
My mother gets a little claustrophobic in an MRI tube, even though I think she has only had 2 previous ones in her 83 years. So, the neurologist who referred her for the MRI, prescribed Xanex. She was to take one pill two hours before her appointment. Needless to say, it had some effect on her.
My mother cares for my 91-year-old father, who is bed ridden and under Hospice since suffering a stroke last fall. Hospice is amazing but so is my Mom. My dad will be evaluated this week to see if Hospice will continue. And that’s my mother, she has given him such unbelievable care 24-7, that she has brought him back to ‘life’ so to speak. Her commitment to keeping him out of a nursing home is unwavering, and at times, at the expense of her own health as my father can be quite demanding.
So, even trips to the hospital for an MRI is a fun outing for my mother. Two minutes into our hour ride, I look over and her head is hanging forward, she’s sound asleep. I wake her up and she seems a little groggy. Once at the hospital and trying to find our way to Radiology, my mother was shuffling along. I took her hand feeling a little scared that she might tip over. We were almost there when my mother starts wondering out loud if she should take another Xanex. All the time I’m laughing cause she’s so damn cute.
In years past we would take Mom out for Mother’s Day. Today she is house bound, so I’m going to head over this afternoon and cook her lunch and be grateful that I can spend time with this amazing woman.
